Why you should NOT get the “50000 miles” US Airways Mastercard

Barclays just came out with a new offer for the US Airways Mastercard.  On the surface, it shows as a 50000 miles offer:

When you read the details, you realize that you get 40,000 miles after the first purchase.  However, the $89 fee is not waived the first year.  You get the other 10,000 miles if do a balance transfer which comes with a 3% fee (~$300 for 10000 miles) which is ridiculous.  This card also does not come with the 10,000 mile anniversary bonus.

The best offer is still the 35,000 miles with no fee first year, $89 thereafter, and 10,000 miles upon each anniversary.

When comparing the 2 offers, you are paying $89 for 5000 additional miles, again not worth it to me.

If you are going to apply for this card, go for the 35000 mile offer.
